Pursuing a career in music isn’t just about talent, hard work, or even luck—it’s about having the right people in your corner. The reality is that being a musician means long hours, unpredictable schedules, and, more often than not, missing out on things most people take for granted: birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and family gatherings. It’s not because we don’t care, but because this path demands an immense amount of time, energy, and dedication.
I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had supportive parents and, now, a wife who understands the sacrifices that come with this career. Not everyone is as fortunate. I’ve met so many talented musicians whose biggest struggle wasn’t writing great songs or mastering their instruments—it was the resistance they faced from the people closest to them. Having a support system that believes in you, even when the odds seem stacked against you, can be the difference between pushing forward and giving up.
For young musicians, especially those just starting out, having that foundational support is crucial. Parents who encourage practice instead of discouraging it, friends who understand why you can’t always make it to every social event, and partners who stand by you even when the road is uncertain—these are the people who help make a music career sustainable.
That’s not to say support means blind encouragement. Some of the best support comes in the form of honest feedback, tough love, and guidance from people who genuinely want the best for you. But knowing you have people who believe in what you’re doing, even when things are difficult, is invaluable.
So, if you’re an aspiring musician, take a moment to appreciate the people who stand by you. And if you’re someone who loves a musician, know that your support means everything. It’s not just about making life easier—it’s about making the dream possible.
To my family, my wife, and everyone who’s had my back through this journey—thank you. I wouldn’t be here without you.
